I find that listening to music in languages you aren't familiar with is often the purest kind of experience coz your reaction is truly to the music and voices only. I see TDC do an interesting twist on Poupee de cire. I like it but I think I need a few listens to get used to it

coz this is the way I know and love it: PS doesn't she remind you of Sienna Miller?

This is one of my fave French language faves:

And this is the only song I have memorized in French and can actually sing though I never knew the English translation until just a few moments ago when I found this:

I am really pleased you liked the Divine Comedy, Neil Hannon (the singer and songwriter) is amazing, he's written some gorgeous lyrics and music, has a beautiful voice, a great sense of humour (he has just done a piano duel in Dublin with Duke Special which by all accounts was a scream) and he's a nice guy (little DP and mr DP met him before a gig we were going to and he stopped for a quick chat and ruffled little DP's hair!). I'll try and link to some more of his songs later.

I'd never noticed the France Gall-Sienna Miller thing but I can see it in that clip!
I will listen to Stereolab later, I don't think I know the song you linked to.
And may I say wow to you knowing the lyrics to Le Tourbillon, such a great film and a great song. I love Jeanne Moreau, she is a great singer as well as a great actress and a remarkable, free woman. We need more of her caliber.

Your post made me viry happy!

Nancy, keep an eye out for more Divine Comedy song later.....

:D

Oh, and Nancy, I will listen to the song you linked up to later, I must get on with my work!!!!!

I feel like I've heard of them before DP, but I can't figure out where or what song...

Forgot to say: I really liked that Stereolab song SW, thanks!

And Nancy, Barbra did a good job indeed (not my cup of tea though, but I can't deny she has talent).

Someone who speaks perfect French is Jodie Foster, quite incredible in fact

Our own Sherry is quite the fan of Mr. Shatner. I remember a time last year or so when she seemed to listen to little else. ;)

Not that I can speak. I'm on pretty much a solid Elbow kick these days. Their newest, The Seldom Seen Kid, is freakin' fantastic! I also finally got a copy of their first full-length which I'm listening to now. It's cool to track the progression of their style, although Guy Garvey has always been a brilliant lyricist. Thanks to the Fab Channel, I get to watch one of their recent concerts in Amsterdam. One of their various Dutch concerts that I keep missing because tickets sell out too quickly. :bang:  :tears: :witsend:

I've got older Elbow stufff, looks like it's time to check out the new stuff.

Yikes, I don't think that latest Shatner link is quite up to his standards.

DP you must like When the Lights Go Out etc coz of the French girls reference.

Gotta listen to more of the Elbow concert when I have time - I never heard any of their music before. They are terrific! So musical, with such an array of instruments - very cool! :thumb:

Just imagine that Weezer and The Cars had a musical child together and the result is Built By Snow.

You can download their album for free from their website :

Last winter we were in my freind's car talking about how great the song is and her husband says "Have you ever heard the Shatner/ Ben Folds version." I had it right there with him and popped it in. We were ROLLING. It was GENIUS! "I said FINE, I've have rum and coca-cola." blahahah I can just hear the whole thing in my head right now.

Elbows latest is very good. Liking it a lot.

Shatner used to be on constant loop in our house. Been a while.

Its Wiggles all the way now  Joys of a Brit/Aussie family and trying to bring up our son to know and embrace both sides of his heritage. The Wiggles is my partners fault :help: He's the Aussie :stick:
