Learning Languages

Postby Ozpot » Thu Aug 20, 2009 3:19 am

Hola! Bonjour! Guten tag! Hallo! Kia ora~!

Yes, in this thread, we can discuss our attempts to become bilingual (or trilingual  ). We might be able to teach each other some common words and phrases.
It is also useful if we want to travel to other countries, yes.

Currently I am trying to learn German. I know a few common phrases. :hrm:
Ja, mein, nein, ich, die, hier...

Now I present to you: The German Alphabet! :D

ah-beh-seh-deh-eh-eff-geh-kah-ee-yot-kal-el-em-en-oh-peh-que-ar-ess-tee-ooh-far-feh-eeks-oopsilon-zeht

Yes, so, you can continue.

I learned quite a bit of Spanish last year. I don't have the greatest memory, but I can remember some phrases, and pronunciations.
Muoy caliente! Muoy bueno~!
Si, senor.
And probably more. :P

I wish I could take a German class. We don't have any where I live.

I was going to attempt to write a note in Spanish but it's been almost a year since I've taken a Spanish course and I'm a bit rusty. I could understand certain words and phrases when I see it in written form but if someone is speaking to me in Spanish, it's more difficult for me to decipher.

A few semesters ago, I wrote a few pages entirely in Spanish and I was so proud of myself. I had it checked by a tutor and rewrote it and everything. Then I went to show my friend (a Spanish speaker) what I had accomplished in 6 weeks and he said, "You write like a 5th grader." :|

He's taking it in high school. In Texas ( i don't know if it's the same every where) you have to have 3 years of a foreign language. So he picked german.

I know how to order more margaritas in spanish.. dos mas margaritas por favor! I really don't know if I spelt that right! but I know how to say it.. that's most important!!

I have found it very useful over the years!

I can understand some if someone is talking to me in spanish but they have to be speaking slowly.

I worked for a german bakery for over 6 yrs and I can barley mumble a few words and poorly.

I took a German class in university and did ok. It's the grammar that gets me. It didn't hurt that I was dating a Swiss-German guy at the time. Funny thing was that when I went to do my oral - it was a conversation with the teacher in her office - I kept saying 'si' instead of 'ja'. Which is so ridiculous because 'ja' sounds so much more like 'yeah'! She must have thought I was a nut bar. I enrolled for a second year, but broke up with the boyfriend. So, I dropped the class.

If anyone needs any help with their French, or a little bit of Italian, I'd be happy to oblige! :D

Leck mich im Arsch is a canon in B-flat major composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, K. 231 (K. 382c), with lyrics in German. It was one of a set of at least six canons probably written in Vienna in 1782.[1] Sung by six voices as a three-part round, it is thought to be a party piece for his friends.

A literal translation of the song's title and lyrics into English would be "Lick me in the arse". A more idiomatic translation would be "Kiss my arse", or even "Get stuffed".
