What the Folk!

I enjoy earthquakes! They really get the adrenaline running – exciting! I've experienced some pretty dang big earthquakes here in 'The Shakey Isles', though nothing that has caused serious damage which might well be a bit too exciting.
As for the weather, it's hot (28ish or about 83 in US speak) and unbelievably muggy. The kind of humidity that means you sweat just walking down a flat street. Ugh. January/Feb are usually hotter so they're gonna be killer! Eek!

Sounds like what we went through last summer. I don't think I've ever run the AC as much as last summer - it was just sooooo muggy!

Like you, Great H, right now we're going through weather that's more suitable for January or February. I worry about what lies ahead as far as the cold stuff. (closest emoticon to shivering)

We're under blizzard warnings here in RI, and so is a good part of the East Coast. I've been putting off the first major shoveling of the driveway, hoping the brisk 35 mph winds may blow the snow away.

Got back from a bit o' shopping, going for a bit of Menage a Trios now (wine) Saw 5 accidents in the span of 2 miles on the highway - not good. Thankfully local roads were okay - for now. Luckily my boss is coolio with me working from home tomorrow so I won't have to worry about risking my life - thanks Dirk.

They just showed a shot of Rt 95 in Providence - no bare road, all snow-covered, and not one car. Emergency officials asked motorists earlier to stay off the roads - I guess they listened. One of our local reporters is stuck near Princeton, NJ, because Amtrak is shut down; she obviously can't get a flight, and according to her driving's out of the question, so she won't be on the air tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I forgot - we have a steady wind of 40-50 mph, with gusts of up to 80. In other words, it's a flipping hurricane with snow!

I love it when every branch is coated. (but not heavy enough to break limbs) It's cold here. But not unbearable.

Great H, I've never experienced a real earthquake....I've felt some light shaking and didn't know what the hell it was, only to find out later it was an earthquake a-ways-away, but that we were able to feel. You NZ'ers take it in your stride and that's the only thing you can do, I guess, with them being pretty much the norm, eh?

SW, glad Dirk (hehe) lets you work from home. Dig in and enjoy the warmth and safety and wine.

It's quite boring weather-wise here. Cold but not below zero, partly cloudy. I'm hoping for a wicked storm to dump a lot of snow on us.

We got between 6 and 12 inches, depending on the drifts, but obviously you got a lot more.

Laura, there's marshland behind our house where ducks and foxes have been spotted. In the snow I look for their pawprints before I head out.
Snowicane -

They showed NYC getting thunder and lightning in the midst of the storm - go figure.

No kidding! I can't really comprehend what that much snow is like or the impact it would have on day to day living. I've never seen more than 2 inches of snow in my entire life.

I'm hoping we get hit like that. I like the sheer quiet during the snowfall and then after it's fallen. Plus it's beautiful to look at. Then we're usually snowed in. I make a pot of soup or stew or chili....maybe bake something....then, head out with the snowblower and all the neighbors are doing the same. If someone gets stuck, you help em push out. It's a real feeling of community.

But yeah, the roads suck for a while....and then after a few days, it's all in dirty grey piles by the side of the road and your car is covered in a yucky film of road-salt. Eh, it's a trade-off.

I'm not SW but if I'm not mistaken, I think she got that from a site that offered them for sale and as a prize before finding out the design was one that was copyrighted. Lucky her!

Nancy, that is very cool. Have you ever gotten pics of the foxes?

I was oo-ing and ahh-ing over the pics of everyone's snow amounts and the tales of thunder-snow and the gale-force winds on the news.....snowicane sounds about right!

Red, you haven't lived til you've fallen backwards into deep snow and made a snow angel....or gone sledding....or tried to take a walk in snow up to your hoo-ha....or your parents got the day off with you cuz the snow drifts kept the garage door from being opened or from being able to drive out of your own driveway!
