I know :rolls: It seems so brutal after the direction that discussion just took

Serving suggestion: Toss over fruit salad. *giggle-snort*

SW that headline horrified me!
Faith is right - it not a kiwi. It's a Kiwifruit, one word, like grapefruit - you don't call them grapes do you?!
A kiwi is a bird. It's our national icon and an endangered species at that so it's quite offensive to us to talk about cutting them up and eating them! Yes they are both brown and furry with large round ends but that's where the similarity ends people! OK mini rant over, it's safe to come out now...

*That gutter level meaning is kinda funny though!*

We know. Sometimes it is just plain funnier being dumb

And I'd still eat a Kiwi (<- capital K, see :geek: )

Incidentally, keep a look out for the gold kiwifruit - they might go under the brand name 'Zespri'. They look the same on the outside but the inside is yellow not green and they are a lot sweeter - they don't have that sharp tartness the green ones do. YUMMY!
They've just bred a third variety too but it's not on the market yet - red kiwifruit. Not sure of the flavour...

All the kiwifruits here are Zespri and they're also all green on the inside. But they are sweetish. Perhaps my perception of colour is a bit off

ETA: Had to go check now, and they are definitely green. In fact it said "green" right on them. Helpful  Incidentally it was also quite the opposite of sweet. *scrunches up face* Still good though :)

No, you can really tell - maybe they don't have the gold ones over there yet?

I didn't realise the green ones were zespri too - I've just googled for images - our's don't usually come with the stickers on them!

Cool:) No, I've never seen those. Mine are like that green on with the green sticker with the word green printed on  I'll look out for the gold variety

To eat a kiwifruit, get a sharp paring knife, peel that sumbitch and slice it thinly.

It's the way me and my kin have been eating them since the 70s, when we first ate them atop Pavlover in Sydney. :)

Yis! So good with fresh passionfruit, strawberries and banana with lots of cream on a big fat pavlova :)

I eat quite a few mangoes, which makes me a cannibal I guess. I used to cut the skin away with a small knife, then slice the fruit of of the seed, but it was messy and time consuming. Now, I usually cut the fruit away from either side of the seed, then I'm left with 2 mango halves with the skin still on. I make a few vertical cuts into the flesh (without piercing the skin) and a few horizontal cuts, so that it looks like a checkerboard. Then, you turn the skin inside out, to make the cubes of fruit pop up like this:

Then, just cut the cubes away from the skin with a small knife. I'll cut the little bits of fruit away from the seed too. I don't want any of that fruit going to waste.

Thank you!!!

MM, that's how my family preps/eats kiwifruit, as well. Maybe it really is a '70s thing! 8) I still do it that way, although I don't always slice it thin anymore. Depends on how lazy/hungry I am. I've seen gold ones for sale (can't remember if it was here or in the US), but I haven't tried them. A lot of our kiwifruits here actually come from Italy. It turns out they're another big grower of kiwifruits. Who knew!
