Welcome to the new Off topic off topic blather thread

Much the same as the old Blather thread but with a few small differences.

a) If a conversation takes up more than one page (a page contains 15 posts) and is actual 'discussion' between more than a couple of members (ie not 3 word replies or 'lol' etc) then we may consider splitting it to form a new topic (its not a hard and fast rule as often things peter out soon after and the subject changes). If its something that has substance or has caught your interest it would be nice to see it in its own thread so it can be added to at a later date by people if they wish.

b) If the discussion goes on to take up two pages or more then we will most likely split the topic anyways. It can of course continue to be posted to in its own thread.

Please don't feel because a part of the convo is moved its a bad thing and you stop posting on it. We are not viewing it as a problem, just trying to get people to converse outside of the blather thread if something really seems to be of interest and would be good to have on view in its own thread.

Please know this is not a set in stone 'it will happen' thing. It will be at the mods discretion. If a mod suggests the topic being discussed is worthy of its own thread in General it'd be great if you think so to and go start one on it Or if you think that without a mod saying so, go do it

c) I really hope people get the idea of starting new threads for stuff also. It doesn't matter if you feel its a bit silly or trivial or that it isn't worthy of being a new topic but unless you post it as a new topic it can't be given a chance. 1 or 2 pages of replies is normal and as the admin I certainly don't mind seeing new threads started.

Again old rule of have a peek and see if there is already an thread active on the subject and if so post to that, if not start a new one. We can always merge threads if it turns out there is something already active on the subject. No biggie.

c ) The Blather thread will be archived at regular intervals. Not sure of definate time frames as yet but be aware every now and again this will happen.

This is why I love Off-Topic Blather:
This morning I heard a strange sound coming from the living room downstairs. It was coming from the wood burning stove - you guessed it, Rocky the Squirrel was inside the big wide pipe leading from the stove to the wall. He had literally forced the pipe away from the wall so there was a huge half-moon opening into the chimney. I smacked the pipe with a poker, and saw him halfway in the pipe and halfway out, with his face looking in the living room. A quick call to my wildlife friend let me know I REALLY didn't want to have him in the living area, soIi took her advice, and blasted the TV, banged on the pipe to try to get him out. So far, 3 hours later, no luck. Rocky is still there. Animal Control said they'd come, that was 3 hours ago. Now I've contacted a pest control service who is coming within the hour. and so we wait....

Holy crap, Nancy!

We used to have a squirrel and a bluejay fight every morning in the heating vent near our apartment when we lived in one. We called them Tyson and Holyfield. They went at it. But the bird usually won. That squirrel was too cocky. ;D

What happened Nancy? Is he gone?

Holy crap doesn't even cover it. Oooh boy, my heart is still beating so fast!!!

My buddy Vinnie from ServiPest came and assessed the situation. We first blocked the pipe from the wall, hoping to trap Rocky just in the pipe, and take the pipe outside to let him out. No go. He was somewhere between the stove and the pipe. So we made his world smaller by unscrewing the pipe from the stove, quickly slamming a hardcover book (Kevyn Aucoin's Face Forward ) over the hole where the pipe had been attached to the stove, so now he was just in the stove. We were going to trap him as he tried to escape through the stove door, but it's a double door, and you have to open both doors to get inside. So we looked at the log feeder, which opened on the stove top. Vinnie said that was our best chance, got on his "work gloves" and said he'd have to grab him and bag him to release him outside. I shut every door to contain the kitties, got my Mom out of the way, and held my breath, when all of a sudden Vinnie said, "he's out" - Rocky had escaped! And the chase began. Rocky ran toward the front door, couldn't get out, ran down the hall, no exit because of the closed doors, then ran into the kitchen toward the sliding glass door. He jumped at it a few times while I struggled with the stupid lock, and finally, I got it unlocked, opened it, and.....out he ran!!!!!

Next on my to-do list - get a chimney specialist to clean it, cap it, repair the chewed up flashing, and seal the ash disposal door where the existing door had disappeared.

So glad I didn't have appointments today, but Vinnie warned that Rocky might be looking to nest, and he might be back, so this is something I have to do immediately - I never want to do this again ...

Yikes! At least he didn't tear up your house in his bid to get out!

Wow, Nancy. Sounds like you had an exciting afternoon. At least he's gone for now.

I liked the fact that Rocky didn't get taken anywhere, and that he's still around here with his family.

As someone who takes spiders outside rather than smooshing them into the wall, I agree. I have looked the other way when my cat decides to make one into a snack, however.

You guys are sweet.

I kill things that come into my house. Sorry. Stay out there and you can live...don't come in here and walk on us while we sleep....I will (have Tom) kill you. Or do it myself if I'm home alone. Sometimes with the aid of hairspray.

Rocky may be a Rockette and is looking for a warm place to have her babies.... (I do like squirrels.)

hahahahah ahahahahahaha I'm sorry Nancy, but I audibly laughed out loud in my office. It sooo reminds me of The Great Outdoors. And after your Raccoon in the garage incident the whole thing just cracks me up.
