Oz, what part of Ontario are you in anyway? We're practically neighbours. Maybe we could use carrier pidgeons if DM doesn't mind me passing it on to you... And maybe you can trade in some of that CT money for postage!

Hehehe, I definitely can't use pigeons. :roll2:
I can try the CT money, maybe. :P
Oh, I live in Oshawa. We have General Motors! (oh yay  )

Ah yis, Oshawa. I know it well. Used to work for a co. based out of Whitby.
I'll be in Mississauga for a day next week, but that won't really help us, will it, cause even if I do have the book by then, I ceratinly won't have read it yet.
We'll figure something out Oz, I just know we will! :read:

Okay, about the actual book.

Cedric is the biggest monster after all. And the luckiest one. Oh, the last sentence of the book!

This was brilliant. As tough and sad and funny as the best US noir. I wish someone would have gotten him to the right US publisher, but if the movie is at least decent, I predict the rest of his work will be back in print in the next 18 months or so.

So DangerMouse, what do you think of it so far? I was captivated from the start with the writing style and ease of reading.

Please remember if you talk about story line to use the spoiler option.

So far it is good gym reading 8) I am thinking about checking our more of this authors stuff since the flow is nice. It is a nice departure from what I usually read.

SuzyBatt & Oz : Feel free to do with it as you please :) I will just write my name and addy in the front cover. Since it is just a paperback it is no biggie  I know it will wander home eventually. Not like it is one of my Oscar Levant first editions :P For those I would have to have you leave 3 forms of ID and a security deposit

Yis, it flows like the Kawarau river.... la la la la
Didn't he only write 4 books in total? I sent my book on so now only have my memory as a reference point and that can be pretty questionable. But his style of writing is the type I enjoy the most.

That's what I did with mine. SW has it now, from her it will go to Carol so if anyone wants it after her, just let your request be known either here or pm her.

Since you're in Texas, maybe Elena could send my copy to you when she's done.

I thought it was a real little treasure.

A work that could sit easily next to Jim Thompson or William Heath or David Goodis, but with a uniquely NZ perspective and a strange and wonderful lightness of touch amid the darkness. It's funny, but a lot more bleak than the "comedy" tag suggests. And the ending is marvelous. A marvelous thing.
