There's actually a huge in-joke in there what with "Bright Eyes". It's the theme song from the movie Watership Down, which the "guarded" Mr. Clement revealed was the first movie he ever saw on an interview with Radio NZ last year. And it was a solo Art Garfunkel song, as opposed to Simon and Garfunkel.
I don't know poop about non-US karaoke, but that scene was still funny. I loved the bit where Jem is riding the carousel, staring off into the distance. There used to be a show up in the UP, called "Finland Calling", where melancholy FInnish ballads would serve as the backdrop for pastoral scenes, and Helsinki tourist attractions. Same principle applies here, I think.
