Does anyone have any idea about buying Aus/NZ region (region 4, I think) dvds on Amazon?
Or do we just need to wait till they're officially released here? (which will probably be later than the US, as the series has only just started here).

I know there's ways and means around the region thing, but I'd rather something that's not going to have those complications...

Sorry, I'm a bit clueless about buying things online

I don't know whether to buy the Aus one either? I think they have the same special features don't they?

I have my trusty $49 region free dvd player anyway :D

Why thank you, SuzyBatt.

The avatar does have a slight link with my habit of throwing sheep at the lads. A bit corny, I know. Still, it does appear to be true that NZ and Wales have the highest sheep densities in the world - 8 per person and 2 per person respectively, according to the most accurate and current figures I can find. Though there probably aren't too many in Wellington, and there certainly aren't many where I live - too urban.

Anyway, I'd better start hinting now about my DVD-shaped birthday present.

Ugh, I really disklike VLC, it's never worked well for me! If anyone knows another similar programme (for mac) I'd be in your debt!

And just a wee tip for those of us that don't have a multi-region DVD player but want to play imported discs ... (Like me! I don't want to have to wait for a Region 4 version of FOTC Season 2!) ... it's highly likely you can make your player region-free by inputting a code you can get from the manufacturer. For example, my DVD unit is a Samsung, region 4 only. I rang Samsung, they asked me for the model number and told me what I had to do - for my model I had to turn the machine off then on again, use the remote to input a 5 digit code, open and close the disc drawer twice then press '9'!!! Bit of a dance, but it worked and I'm now happily playing all my other-region DVDs! :cheer: The player stays region-free until it is unplugged or there is a power cut, but the code can just be re-inputted if that happens. I've done the same thing for two friends with DVD units from other manufacturers so it seems DVD players are often built as multi-region then deliberately limited for point-of-sale. Give it a try! :)

Interesting... VLC didn't work for me either. I was trying to play the UK version of Eagle vs Shark on my computer and it just looked crazy with these giant pixels. I'll have to figure out if there's a code for my regular dvd player. Thanks for the tip Great H!

Hmm, I've never had a problem with VLC on my laptop *shrug* Maybe it has to do with the graphics cards in your computers?

Shame that a lot of places don't sell region free DVD players. When they first came out here they were few and far between and pricey. But now pretty much all of them, from cheap to top of the range are region free so can play any disc. Our DVD player was £20 and plays everything  8) Sometimes there is the layering problem but if it happens we switch over to the iMac.

Also worth trying a games console if you have one.....

True, any 'non-name' brand will be region free usually....and cheaper.

It played a region 1 dvd just fine. It doesn't like the region 2 EvS for some reason.
I ended up just changing the region on the regular player on my laptop to region 2 since it allows you to change it a few times.
We always watch dvds on the regular tv anyway.

I just pre-ordered my s2 dvd from a shop up the street from me, and here's the exciting bit:
THE DVDS ARE COMING IN ON THE 29TH!!! :woohoo:

There I was wondering how much longer we'd have to wait till they came out here (since we're still only mid-season broadcast-wise), and it turns out we're getting it earlier?! :cheer:

'citing :whitey:

Wow! That's so great. I can't wait to see the extras. You'll have to tell us all about it since we have to wait until August. :(

How odd that they would release it before the shows have even finished airing. :hrm: Maybe to butter you Aussie's up so you won't be offended by "Unnatural Love". :D

well, it's only a few days before you guys get it, so I probably won't even get to see them all before you

it is odd, I can only imagine that SBS (the station broadcasting it) has no say in the dvd release...? :hrm:
and I think I speak for all Australians (with good taste) when I say more buttering up is in order!
