Aww, thanks for sharing details about your experience, vmh. You're so lucky to have met him twice! Cute videos too! I'm not surprised that you ladies weren't the only ones smitten by Taika. ;)

A congratulations to Taika is in order! Boy won the audience award for world cinema at AFI Fest. All week long, audience members were given ballots to vote on the films we saw. World Cinema was the most competitive category because it had the biggest selection of films. I feel like my crew and I were partly responsible since we all voted 5 (the highest vote) on our ballots after the screening and told everyone else to do the same. But mostly, I think it's because Taika is a great filmmaker. Well done. :yay:

I was at last night's screening too. My sister and I had to race from Warner Brothers (we went to Conan's new show last night) to Hollywood/Highland because I was scared of being late. I was hoping to see Taika again but he wasn't there. It looks like he went to NY sooner than I thought he would. But, I'm really glad that people like it and that I got to see it again. It's not just a success in New Zealand! I hope that means it'll run in an independent theatre near you soon!

:yay: Congrats to Taika!! :D Great job with the voting, vmh! :thumb:

I noticed last night he tweeted this:
BOY wins at AFI. Yeah yeah yeah...

Then stuff.co.nz wrote this:
Waititi celebrates award with 'yeah yeah' tweet

Taika Waititi's film Boy has received an award at the AFI Film Festival but the director seems unimpressed.

Boy received an Audience Award in the World Cinema section of the Audience and Jury Awards at the American Film Institute Awards. Seven awards were given out in total.

Waititi, the film's director, celebrated with the tweet: " BOY wins at AFI. Yeah yeah yeah..."

Boy is set in the 1980s and follows the exploits of an 11-year-old trying to please his wayward father, who returns home after spending several years in jail.

It has become one of New Zealand's most popular films, becoming the highest grossing film of all time and receiving rave reviews.

So Taika tweeted this:
stuff.co.nz: "Taika Waititi's film Boy has received an award at the AFI Film Festival but the director seems unimpressed." BLAH BLAH BLAH...

Quite amusing, really.

V, that is a flippin' awesome photo. You look so pretty and very content and comfortable with Taika's arm wrapped around you. Note hand on the shoulder, clutching your arm, his expression is WOW. :thud: :thud:
