Well, after doing a bit of research (and after holding some lovely
ukes owned by my friends*), I'm resigned to the fact that I'll probably be spending over $150, and possibly over $200 for something really lovely. I do think I'll be satisfied with just the one if I get a nice one, so I might as well splash out a bit.
I was looking at solid mahogany Kala tenor with Aquila strings in a shop, and that was gorgeous
(obviously), but also $365, so I'm still looking.....
I'm pretty sure I want a concert size uke, but they actually seem to be a little rarer that sopranos. Is that something other people have found?
* my friend Felicite has an adoble
little Koa wood soprano which is nearly 100 years old. I kid you not. She plays it all the time, but you should see the look on her face when someone else is holding it. It's obviously her baby
