Bret to write songs for Disney's "Bob the Musical"!

Postby Venus » Tue Jul 28, 2015 9:01 pm

Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar for writing the fun Muppets song 'Man or Muppet,' is being brought on board to write songs for the musical comedy.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon is in talks to work on Disney’s long-in-the-works comedy, Bob the Musical.

At the same time, Bret McKenzie, one half of musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords who wrote many songs for The Muppets and won an Oscar for best original song with "Man or Muppet," has been brought on board to compose ditties for the feature.

The project had been in development since at least 2004 but now has a renewed voice with director Michel Hazanavicius, who helmed the Oscar-winning 2011 film The Artist.

Additionally, Tom Cruise is circling the lead, a regular guy who, after a blow to the head, suddenly can hear the inner songs of everyone’s heart as his reality is instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay.

Tripp Vinson, Chris Bender, JC Spink and Beau Flynn are producing.

Mike Bender (Not Another Teen Movie), John August (Frankenweenie) and Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (City Slickers) are among those who previously worked on the script over the years.

Chabon, the writer behind such as acclaimed novels as The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and The Yiddish Policeman’s Union, has done movie work before. He wrote on 2004’s Spider-Man 2 and on several projects for Disney. He worked on 2012’s John Carter, as well as the still-in-development remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Magic Kingdom, which has Jon Favreau attached.

Chabon is repped by UTA, publishing agent Mary Evans, and attorney David Colden.

But disliking the way the news is being spread on Twitter ("Bret McKenzie to write songs for TC")
I mean, the guy's still just circling, isn't he?
Hopefully in larger & larger circles
