Hey.
I came here looking for the tabs for this song, but I didn't see them anywhere, so I started trying to figure out the chords for myself. I figured I'd post what I came up with.
By the way, this is the first tab I've ever posted anywhere, and my first post here.
Thanks to squishakasoggy for making what sounds like a perfectly accurate tab of most of the song.
The whole first part, as they said, goes F Gm Bb A.
Then it changes at this part:
Code:
Cm D A
Where I was caught with a friend aged 11, sniffing tractor fuel
E
We thought we were pretty cool, breaking them changing shed rules
By the way when you play the E the rhythm changes and it might be a power chord. Not really sure.
Then:
Code:
F
But do you see up there?
Gm
The banner hanging in the air?
Bb
The Presbyterian Fair
A Gm
Well, I never go, there's too many Presbyterians there
Bb Gm
But if you're interested, the fair's in the third weekend of August every year
But don't bother entering the raffle,
Bb A
It's always won by some kid of the Mayor
F
Do you hear that sound?
Gm
The town clock, heard from anywhere in town,
Bb
Until 1960, it was a little place in Norway
A
We bought it for a hundred pounds
Cm D A
Rumor has it they sold it cheap because the chimes were too loud
E
But every time I hear that sound it makes me so proud
C E
Look to your left, what a beautiful sight,
F E
It's Paula, Paula Thompson, nee Paula Wright.
C E
Look at her hair, it's still gorgeous, even now.
F
Flowing like the Womahonga River,
E
Which incidentally, is to your right.
When it gets to the part with C E F, I'm not sure if you're doing barre chords or not. My suspicion is that you are, but my ear is not that good.
At this next part, it sounds like it could be power chords again, but something makes me doubt it. It could be E7 and F7. I hope somebody can correct this.
Code:
E F
And it's the largest, in the area
In terms of volume.
E F
Everybody, look at Paula, look at Paula Thompson
E Am
I always thought I'd marry Paula
E
But some things just don't work out that way
F Gm
Well, that's the most important thing you'll learn on the tour today
Bb
That, and the fact there'll be a toliet break
A
At the information center near the manmade lake
Go back to F Gm Bb A for the speaking part. Then we come to:
Code:
C E F
Paula Thompson, born in '54
E F
To a family of four
E F
To the family next door
E C
Take me back next door
E F
Paula Thompson, nee Paula Wright.
E F
That's her old house, number 39
E F
Number 41 was mine
E D7
If this old coach could go back in time
I'd drive to 1979
D#7 D7
Take me back...
By the way, when you're playing D7 there, you sometimes slide up to D#7 and then back, as you can hear from the song, that's what I was trying to indicate. You continue to play D7 for a while, until you get to the final few "take me back"s, which go:
Code:
C
Take me back, take me back,
E
Take me baaaaaaack...
And then it's F Gm Bb A for the rest of the song.
Thanks for looking at my crappy tab, and I hope it's of some help to you, because I love this song and you probably do too, because it's amazing.
Also if somebody with a better ear could help me fix some of the stuff above that would be much appreciated.
Good luck!
