influences

Postby jason » Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:43 pm

Been a fan of FotC, been a guitar player, been a music lover.

Today I was listening to Django Rheinhardt's "Charleston" and spotted a nod from FotC in one of their songs in the opening intro by Django. Got me to wondering if anyone knew of any other such homages in the FotC music or knows anything about their musical influences?

Some of their music I quite like and is quite clever, glad to have found a place with tabs and discussion of such things.

Wow, where to start? "Bowie" is complete tribute to David Bowie. "Sugalumps" channels Missy Elliot, the Blackeyed Peas' My Humps and Kelis's Milkshake. "Cheer Up Murray" reminds me of Badfinger, while "Business Time" is a satire on Barry White songs

They reference lot of things and have a great time doing it.

I'll never forget the first time I saw the karaoke bit at the end of the second video. I fell about the place laughing :roll2:
I couldn't believe it was a real thing.

Funny this should come up today, Jemaine just posted yesterday on their MS blog about The Front Lawn being their biggest influence, more or less. ;) Did you guys see it?

Welcome to the forum, jason! We also had a discussion about the FOTC parodies/homages here.
Yes, I'm so glad someone made those videos. :)

Haha, I was just gonna mention this! :D

They might not be to the taste of some of our fans, they more influenced our wistful and whimsical songs than our ones that are about dicks and trying to get chicks to touch our dicks, but give it a go.

Tell us about yourself over here:

I was also going to mention the FoTC MySpace link. I'm glad mock got the link for you.

It's always good to meet another FoTC-lover. I look forward to seeing you around. :D

I was at their MySpace earlier and didn't even see this! I SOOOOOO hate what they've done to MS.....trying to navigate it sucks now and it's pretty much as Jemaine said, a bunch of bands and actors trying to get you look at their stuff. The only stuff I want to look at over there is the FOTC page. :)

(When I re-visited there before the holidays after having been away, I looked at my inbox and was all "OMG! Jack Black wants to be my friend?!?! And Dennis Leary?!.......................
*
*
*
*
*..............................
Really?" :hrm: )

Then I realized how hawkish it's gotten. :-/

Thanks mock- I loved watching both of those and do plan to check out more of that stuff from that year known as the eighties...

I could never navigate MS in the first place. It doesn't help that my browser won't leave me logged in and that I am constantly getting virus alert pop ups when I'm there. Laura don't you get email alerts for the blog?

I couldn't make it through the 2nd link J posted & barely made it through the 1st.

Also - Prince of Parties may refer to Magical Mystery Tour in its video, but it's pure Donovan musically.

And I think Sugalumps is more like Milkshake - Kelis's video was also set in a restaurant. And Jemaine has said it was based on Milkshake. So...
