My morning radio peeps went to Mexico and took a bunch of listeners and had Lifehouse and Train there! Here's Train doing Hey Soul Sister live. 8)
Pat Monahan on vocals, Jimmy Stafford on Uke.

(There's more vids from the same person from Train and LH but no more ukes....:P)

That's a great video Laura :D

and thank you for reminding me of the existence of this thread, 'cause I really want to share these videos I took at the Melbourne Uke Festival a few weeks ago. It was so so SO much fun, and I took these videos at the "fringe" festival  (just a random gig the Ukulele Safari lined up at a cafe).

First, Rose Turtle Ertler, an Aussie with a really interesting "off-kilter" style that I adore.
I don't know the name of this song, but it's about converting her caravan into a pirate ship and sailing away...

Next, Mr Jaynickel from Belgium. His real name's Yannick Van Loo, but Mr Jaynickel is his performance name. I HIGHLY recommend looking him up on youtube, he's a great talent (and a really really lovely man to boot :D )

It seems to be more of a guitar strum - the first part is sort of 1 and 2, 3 (with some hooching in between 1 and 2), then 3 quick up, up, up. It was hard to tell by looking because of blurring, but that's what it sounded like. :dunno:

*runs to check it out*

This is a smile-inducer of a description of a chord progression (it's for guitar, but hey it could work on a uke) as related by Stewie, the baby on Family Guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RmO6fc-FdE

For some reason it reminds me of Murray with the Mom and the Dad guitar.

:roll2: Aweseom!

I'm trying to write something myself at the moment so the "how hard can it be" and the tentative chord progression really made me laugh! Thanks for posting that :)

Stewie and Brian just make me laugh. Glad you liked it. When I saw it last night, all I thought of was all the WTFIUO folks, strumming away.

I didn't record these guys because they involve a uke, but they do. And they're awesome.
Enjoy :D

They're called Polytecnik, and they're regular-ish buskers around where I live (inner west Sydney)

Wow, hel, they are something else! :thumb:

I would think it must be hard to breathe in those suits. I also wonder why the fiddle player didn't expose his hands so he could have an easier time playing. :boohoo:

I was watching The View today and Train was on doing Hey Soul Sister. I was ready to post a YouTube recording of it here, but I see Laura is so much more on the ball than I am  - what a great, up song, made happy by that uke!

Norwegian artist Espen Lind :) He actually co-wrote Hey Soul Sister, and was the one who suggested going with a uke

I had no idea, biscuit! Thanks....he has a gorgeous voice.

Quote:
After collaborating with the Norwegian production duo Espionage (Espen Lind and Amund Bjorklund) in the writing and recording of the track "Brick by Brick", Train's lead singer Pat Monahan decided to record another track with the duo.

“ I said, 'I want to write an INXS-y song," Monahan recalled. "So, they started playing kind of an INXS-y song, and I wrote the song 'Hey, Soul Sister' to it and the melodies and started to sing it. And I was like, 'Man, this just doesn't sound great to me.' ”
“ One of the guys, Espen, who's like a huge star in Norway, picked up a ukulele, and said, 'Hey, how about this?' I was like, 'Are you (kidding) me?' And it made the difference. It made my words dance. It made sense. These words were meant to dance with ukulele and not guitar."

:D
