I read the first chapter last night - undecided as to whether I like it or not. :hrm:

I really liked it, but I pitied the main characters in a way. It's a very dark, very funny book, but there is something kind of sad and wistful at its core.

I can totally see Bret as Nigel, though. Detailed exegesis (w/ spoilers) at the Duncan Sarkies thread.

I always like to read the book before seeing an adaptation so naturally I had to go and get this one :) I'm liking it so far (78 pages in atm).

I definitely see Bret as Nige too  (Though that's only based on the fact that Nige is described as curly haired and that Deano is a real duckhid! )

I just thought of something; Isn't Bret a bit old for the part? :hrm: The guys are supposed to be in their twenties iirc.

I haven't read the book yet but if Bret shaves his beard again (like in D.D.), I don't think it'll be a problem. He could pass for a twenty something without the beard.

In some of the tour pics, I was amazed at how boyish he looked. He can pull it off.

I dunno. He does look boyish without the scruff but he still doesn't really look under 30 to me. Not that it really matters either way really, it was just a thought :)

And as it turns out a great excuse to post a pic..uhm..for reference :halo: (I've gone into withdrawl and Friday is so far away  )

Good God I love this guy. Look at him  And his hands are really beautiful! :help:

NZ feature film production heading to Invercargill
1 October, 2010

Acclaimed New Zealand director Robert Sarkies ("Out of the Blue", "Scarfies") plans to direct his next feature film, "Two Little Boys", in Southland, Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt announced today.

Based on Duncan Sarkies' novel of the same name, the script has been co-written by the Sarkies brothers and will be their second collaboration after the success of their cult feature film Scarfies.

Pre-production is expected to commence in November this year with principal photography starting in January 2011.

Producers Vicky Pope and Tim White are thrilled at the prospect of basing the production out of Invercargill.

“We are excited about the possibility of working with the Southern Institute of Technology, Invercargill City Council, Community Trust of Southland, Invercargill Licensing Trust and Film Otago Southland on the film.

“The project will bring a significant boost to the local economy and we are attracted to working in such a film-friendly city with access to so many of the region’s beautiful locations," they said.

“We are particularly pleased about the involvement of the Southern Institute of Technology who, as part of the partnership, will be offering a group of their students the opportunity to work with us as interns on the film.”

"Two Little Boys" is a bromantic black comedy about Nige and his recently estranged best mate Deano. When Nige finds himself in a spot of bother after a series of unfortunate incidents, he is forced to ask Deano for help. The problem is Deano is not really the kind of guy you should turn to in a crisis...

Movie boost for Southland
3/10/2010 6:52:00

A new Robert Sarkies film will be shot in Southland, a welcome boost while it recovers from a devastating snow storm

As the cost of the snow storm which devastated Southland is counted, there's some good news for the region this morning.

Robert Sarkies, who directed the movies Scarfies and Out of the Blue, has announced he'll shoot his next project in Southland.

Pre-production on the film Two Little Boys, is due to start next month.

Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt says it'll provide a welcome boost worth about $3 million to the Southland economy.

He says the movie production will also help lift morale.

He hasn't read the book, has he?

Oh, that's so cool the Sarkieses are on board! :D

Apt synopsis. "bromantic black comedy"!! :thumb:

Yes, I'm anxious to know if Bret is still attached to this....and which boy he will play. Nige does seem the obvious choice, but I don't know anything about Hamish Blake. At one point in the book I remember picturing Bret as Deano. :worry: (I really don't want to see him balding with a comb over though.)
