At Cine Expo Tuesday evening, Fox’s presentation included a big push for Rio, the new animated project from Ice Age veteran Carlos Saldanha of Blue Sky.
The voice cast includes Jesse Eisenberg, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro, Anne Hathaway, Jemaine Clement, George Lopez, and Tracy Morgan. Saldanha unveiled some plot points, character sketches, and early footage from the film, which is due out in about 10 months. (The Brazilian setting of the film also inspired Fox’s lavish Carnival-themed after party Tuesday night.)

New Trailer for RIO Starring the Voices of Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg by Matt Goldberg Posted:December 8th, 2010 at 8:37 am
A new trailer has gone online for the animated film Rio. Like this year’s animated family film Alpha and Omega, Rio centers on a pair of animals who are trying to f***. Okay, that might be a bit of an over-simplification. They’re a pair of rare macaws (voiced by Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg) who are brought together to mate but are then kidnapped so they can be sold on the bird black market. Judging by the trailer, it could be amusing.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars the voices of George Lopez, Jemaine Clement, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, will.i.am, and Jamie Foxx. It’s set to open in 3D on April 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Rio:
Quote:
RIO is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the “Ice Age” films. Set in the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil, the comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there’s another – and that she’s a she – he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it’s far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life’s many wonders. RIO brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance.

I just don't get the mispronunciation of such a simple flipping name. If it was GHTHYGTRERFDEREDSWSA, then I'd understand it. But it's not. And if Steve Carell can say it correctly, why can't the rest of the world? Unless Jemaine has decided that with his newfound fame comes a new name pronunciation.

I'm LOVING that he's a bad guy again. Seriously, though, I can't recognize his voice except for "Parade" and the laugh. He's a big, evil, fluffy white cockatoo and it's ADORABLE! [for the purposes of this post that is not a chicken that is a cockatoo]

Dreamworks' 'Rio' (2011)
Here's the international trailer for Dreamworks' April 2011 CGI-animation release Rio, featuring the voice-talent of Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, who plays a rare Macaw parrot who thinks he's the last of his species, only to discover that there's a she-Macaw somewhere in Brazil. Played by Hathaway, the fiercely independent 'Jewel' turns out not to be any kind of an obvious match for our over-domesticated avian hero.
Ice Age and Robots director Carlos Saldanha (interestingly also responsible for many of the bizarre visual effects in David Fincher's Fight Club) is at the helm of Dreamworks latest bid for your funnybone and heartstrings...

Rio (April 8 ) Voices Of: Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Jemaine Clement, Will.I.Am, Tracy Morgan, Jamie Foxx, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Neil Patrick Harris For the Kids: A rare blue macaw (Eisenberg) is brought from his cozy cage in Minnesota to Rio de Janeiro to breed with the last female of his kind (Hathaway), but is kidnapped by poachers. Also, he can't fly. And it's by the director of the Ice Age movies. For the Adults: The amount of Eisenberg playing a bookstore-educated bird one can take is still to be determined, but you can always entertain yourself by identifying all of the different vocal cameos. We can't wait to hear Jemaine Clement as a cockatoo.
