Bret in the experimental short film, "Black Sands"

Oooo Nancy! I love your interpretation! So she's making her way to lost-love Bret, and the black balls and the Fruit-of-the-Loom guys represent Hell....they ran the gauntlet and were untouched, so were moving on into a positive afterlife together!

I can also imagine the whole thing as a dramatization of depression. Black Sands = Dark Times? :dunno:

In that case Bret could possibly represent suicide or some really good meds. :lol:

Ha! Great H. I love it. Isn't there a saying, "The simplest explanation is most likely the correct one."? Dugan probably had a couple dozen black balloons laying around one day... :bounce:

I just rewatched Black Sands. (yes, I know...but I'm down to about once a day now) This time I unexpectedly laughed when I got to the 'run to the hug' part cuz it ever so slightly put me in mind of the night I met Bret in Chicago. He stood there looking all devastatingly handsome, smiled at me and I (practically) ran and attacked him with a violent hug. :roll2:

Minor differences of course, there was squealing instead of a cool soundtrack ( :doh:

)...and he certainly didn't run towards me. :wink:

As I recall he sort of braced himself....he might have thought I was going to jump on. :rolls:

(I should have, dammit) I'm sure there were a few sharp glances fired my way for that move...and it certainly rocked my world. :wink:

Oh hell....I'm gonna watch it one more time.

I can't seem to find any more info or pics relating to this project. I'm so curious about it. I wonder if Bret has done any other bits of work that we just haven't stumbled upon. I would love to know what he thinks about the final project. According to some convo between Dugan O'Niel and R/D on fb, it was only recently completely finished. If it was a project close to Bret's heart I would think he might promote it a bit on myspace like Jemaine did Sheepy & Robert, or some other way...but maybe it was just a job. :dunno:

I guess I don't really know what people do with their short films. Submit them to contests? This one had to have cost a chunk of change to produce.

Wow, that was really powerful. Bret is so beautiful, and that lady is hot! I could only hope to look half as good when I'm her age.

The film reminds me a lot of movies we did for our 20th Century Music class back in 1970. Everything back then was "experimental", replete with inner meaning and symbolism up the wazoo. I love the fact that we've renamed the guards those Fruit Of The Loom guys! :roll2:
