Yeah, they're only basing that review on the trailer.

A fan with Bret and Hamish. Aww, look at their matching hoodies.

It's a shame that they may not meet up again in Australia during FOTC's NZ/Aus tour since Hamish will probably be in Europe by then.

Is that not in the book? I have read it but obviously I don't remember it well! The trailer definitely makes it look as though they are planning to kill Gav tho. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! :waiting:

Well, Deano plots (and attempts) to kill Gav but Nige isn't in on it...in the book anyway. The reviewer said "they start conspiring to kill another friend of theirs" implying a) that Nige would EVER harm Gav :hrmpf: and b) that Deano was ever Gav's friend. :hrmpf:

That's a great picture! :D Lucky girl.

Variety have posted a mini review:

Two Little Boys
(New Zealand)
By BOYD VAN HOEIJ

A Tent Pole Films production. (International sales: NZ Films, Wellington, New Zealand.) Produced by Vicky Pope, Tim White. Executive producer, Murray Francis. Directed by Robert Sarkies. Screenplay, Duncan Sarkies, Robert Sarkies, based on the novel by Duncan Sarkies.
With: Bret McKenzie, Hamish Blake, Maaka Pohatu, Filip Berg, Erin Banks, Charlie Britzman, Jarin Towney, Russell Smith, Ian Mune, Lee Hatherly. (English, Norwegian dialogue)

The title of the 1993-set kiwi bromance "Two Little Boys" is a good indication of its level of humor, which is so juvenile and obvious the only period-appropriate thing missing is a laugh track. Scribe-helmer Robert Sarkies ("Scarfies") directed these misadventures of a duo only slightly older and more anthropomorphized than Beavis and Butt-head, adapting a novel by his co-scribe brother, Duncan. Presence of Bret McKenzie ("Flight of the Concords," the recent Oscar-winning "Muppets" song) should help get it noticed, but the longevity of "Boys" will be assured by auds into silly drinking-game fodder.

After mullet-maned Nige (McKenzie) accidentally kills a Norwegian backpacker (Filip Berg), he turns to former best friend, Deano (Hamish Blake) for help. Deano hopes their intense bond might be revived if he assists getting rid of the body, but the profundity of their avant-la-lettre bromance is telegraphed too conspicuously to sustain momentum (Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" on the soundtrack is overkill). McKenzie, Blake and Maaka Pohatu, as a rotund Maori rival for Nige's man-love, are broad but sympathetic, and the pic's period look impresses. New Zealand landscapes are tourist-friendly, even if the onscreen antics are not.

Camera (color, widescreen), Jac Fitzgerald; editor, Annie Collins; music, David Long; production designer, Jules Cook; costume designer, Amanda Neale. Reviewed at Berlin Film Festival (Generation 14 Plus), Feb. 16, 2012. Running time: 104 MIN.

There's even a bit in the trailer with Deano and Gav as Deano slips and says something about it being his last day.

Funnyman Hamish Blake takes a walk on the dark side.
By Luke Dennehy

THE next step for Hamish Blake could be serious acting.
Blake said he "loved" his first real shot at acting, in the New Zealand dark comedy Two Little Boys, which is set to be released in Australia in September.
"It was amazing," he said this week.
"It's a pretty dark, odd film. It's definitely not mainstream.
"But it was such an amazing film, I felt like I had won a competition again."
Blake and his sparring partner, Andy Lee, are working on their new show, Hamish and Andy's European Gap Year, and will move to London in May.

Excellent, thanks for posting, Laura! Ooh, an Australian release date! Looks like it'll be released in NZ around the same time. :D Love the mention of their new show in London too. I also heard they'll be filming in a little pub. So exciting!

Great news about Hamish receiving a Gold Logie nomination too. Fingers crossed! Is this the first time Hamish has been nominated for a Gold Logie?

When Hamish and Bret get together next, their little gold men could hang out.

Thanks for posting the interview, Lauraaa. What competition is Hamish talking about?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I have no idea, I think maybe it's just meant to say "I felt like I had won a competition." The only thing I can think of is a quote from him in like 2007 along the lines of "I feel like I must have sent in five labels from a Coke bottle and been rewarded with my dream job." I doubt it relates to that though. Obviously there was more to the interview but because it wasn't all published it's hard to tell what he's talking about :|

Yes, this is the first time and not surprising as last year was the first year that him and Andy really had a well(ish) received regular show.
