His drawing of her on Facebook the other day was pretty funny. I was particularly pleased to know that she is dongless & has a pooper.

What a great drawing! :D Thanks for sharing.

I liked the idea of a group card sent to Jemaine on his birthday and thought it would be nice to send Taika something similar on the occasion of becoming a dad. So, if you'd like to sign it as well, I put the details and the link on World Of Taika website.

I hope he'll like it. :cheer:

I signed the card, and put a photo of Amy as a baby wearing her first pair of high heels.

Aww, cute! Thanks for setting it up, emira. I'm sure Taika will really appreciate the card. :D

Girl, not Boy, for director dad
By Kathryn Powley
5:30 AM Sunday Jun 3, 2012

Director Taika Waititi is a proud new dad.

"I'm really loving it," he told the Herald on Sunday.

Los Angeles-based Waititi and his wife Chelsea Winstanley welcomed baby girl Te Hinekaahu into the world on May 20.

"Her full name is Te Kainga o Te Hinekaahu Waititi. That's a derivative of my great-grandmother's name," he said.

The Boy director has been joking with American friends that her name means "Resurrection of Tupac" or "Mazda RX7" after his dream car.

"I come from a big extended family, so it's very normal to be around babies for us, but when it's your own it's a very different experience for us. But so far it's quite easy falling into the role - it's come very easy for me. It just feels very natural."

He declined to share a picture of his daughter, but said she was "beautiful", and had a good personality and was a lot of fun.

The birth of the 3.4kg girl was without drama, and Winstanley was doing well.

"Everything's completely normal, which is what you want," he said.

Waititi said they'd decided to avoid the American tendency for a lot of medical intervention in birth and had chosen a birthing centre with facilities similar to New Zealand.

"We found a cool place that was more about natural, New Zealand styles."

Both sets of grandparents were currently visiting.

Waititi is preparing to shoot a US pilot of Super City with actor Madeleine Sami.

"Apart from that, we're just hanging out for the summer. We're just going to chill out and give this baby some sunlight."

The family-of-three hope to be back in New Zealand next month.

A man after my own heart - I had Amy in a birthing center in NYC. No meds, just me, Amy's Dad, his Sis, my Mom, and the midwife, just as I had visualized it. :D :babyblanket:

I agree Nancy, good for them. Of course people are free to choose what is right for them but IMO there are way too many medical interventions regarding births. I didn't know it was different in NZ. Our birth options here in central KY are terrible -we have no birth centers, except for one that happens to be in my city and it's not really a birth center, it's actually in a hospital. Plus it's illegal for midwives to attend homebirths. Sorry to go off on a tangent, this is a pet issue of mine. ;)

Does anyone know how to pronounce baby girl's name? It looks like a mouthful. I wonder what part is after his great -grandmother, the first or the second or all of it? I seem to recall reading somewhere that names pass down through the women in Maori culture... ??? I'm probably full of sh*t and I'm too lazy to Google it, lol.

Te Kainga o Te Hinekaahu
Easy! *cough* it's roughly...
Teh kuh eye ing ah oh Te Hin eh car who?

The Kuh-eye bit runs together as one syllable, but the ing bit is the hardest for non native speakers. It's actually only 'ng' not ing, but it's roughly the same as the ing in 'thing', but without the 'th' or the 'ih' bit. the two letters kind of roll together to create one sound. Tricky.

Wow that's really hard to explain - I'm not entirely sure the sounds I can hear in my head in NZ English are what you'll hear in your head in your accent when you read it, but I've done my best, LOL! If Taika ever reaads this he'd probably laugh his head off!
Anyay, there you go. Maori 101. :D

I get the NG part coz I remember the way Jemaine says Tonga & Runga (as in Bic Runga) & I would have no idea how to explain it except to say that it's not a hard G, it's sort of swallowed G...or something. But you're saying the G is pronounced in this name?
Are the 2 Te's in her name really pronounced differently?

Ah whatever, I'm calling this kid Mazda.

That's a mouthful all right! :) I've sat here and tried to say it about 10 times.

Tupak Waititi is easier too....
