What the Folk!

This episode may not be perfect but it's fast becoming my favorite. Mainly due to the complete absurdity of it all. Things feel very disjointed but somehow it all works. A wonderfully surreal show.

Hey- did anyone catch the office hours sign at the begining? I can't read what it says at the bottom. Too funny that they are only open 3 1/2 hours a day.

Only open 3 1/2 hours a day? I missed that! lol Makes me wonder why Murray needs to hold band meetings in the office if that's all the hours he needs to work. That's a big ol' honkin chunk of work day if you only work 3 plus hours!

I had to watch this episode twice before I could figure out if I liked it or not lol. I've decided that I do lol. The dressing up as Art Garfunkle thing did throw me though.

Loved both songs. The karaoke thing was so random and sort of monty python-ish. I enjoy things that make no sense! DW was great! I didn't see it as Jemaine being overtly sexual. I figure all people are very complex (esp. shy people, speaking as one of them) and that's just another side. I enjoyed that side very much! I'm extremely hard to shock though, overt would have to go much, much, much further over the line for me to consider something overt, so it may just be me.

I thought it was interesting that both Murray and the PM both feel the need to make notes on tablets. lol Mel dressing Doug up as Bret confused me a little. I had thought that Mel and Doug were in the stage of their relationship where it's been years since anything physical happened. So I thought for Mel, the conchords were sort of her fantasy to help fill voids in reality. Like porn for girls! Now I will have to rethink my theory. (I have way too much free brain time lol)

Does New Zealand have good cheese? lol There's this whole weird cheese scene where I live that I've gotten mixed up in. I've had so many different kinds of cheese, but not New Zealand. I'm feeling deprived.

I really liked this episode. I thought Demon Woman was a pretty good song and I LOVED the video for it. Although I thought that Bret's karaoke song was kind of random I thought it was great as well. Everyone kind of already mentioned my favorite parts, but one thing I was wondering was if this episode was filmed after the presidential election? I am assuming it was but my sister thought it would have been funny if they filmed two endings one with Obama and one with McCain. She was like maybe they would put it as an extra on the dvd.

A couple of new things I noticed:

Murray's hair - in the first scene and when they're in the White House, it's really funky. It looks as though it's sprayed within an inch of its life. On the train ride back to NYC, it looks more like the Murray hair we know and love.

When Murray gives the gig clothes to the guys, did anyone notice Jemaine's black and white striped Amoeba concert jersey?

At the gig, when Jemaine sings "I need a shirt", I lost it.

The PM calling NZ at Dave's to find out "How's the country doing? How's the environment doing?"

And what exactly happened to the PM at the end, after he mentions the glitch? The closed captioning just says "all gasp" - did he jump????

Speaking of hair, Did anyone notice Jemaine's hair when he was sitting on the bench talking to Mel? It went from being combed to one side then being combed towards the front like normal to being combed to the side again. It kind of distracted me and drove me a little crazy.

I think that their relationship had been dead for years phisically-wise..UNTIL Jemaine told her about his Garfunkling experience..and that might have given Mel an idea.. to treat herself to a little Mckenzling..

I really enjoyed this episode, right from the start. In fact, I found myself thinking halfway through that this is a great episode. It didn't feel disjointed or odd to me at all. Meanwhile, last week's episode wasn't such a favorite for me.

I liked the Demon Woman video, even though I didn't realize it was a Cliff Richard take-off. It was just a perfect early rock video to me, with the special effects that were so prevalent in so many of those early videos. Overall, it just had that great early heavy metal feel in both song and video.

The karaoke was bizarre and perhaps the element that fit the least well, but it was still hysterical and almost like a palette cleanser before moving on to the rest of the episode. Plus, the background video and the fact that the song was in a language I don't know reminded me of the Dutch karaoke I saw at Christmas and how you end up getting really into one or two words.

The appearance of Art Garfunkel was brilliant. I had known he was making an appearance this season, but I'd forgotten about it, so the surprise worked for me after all. Also, I grew up listening to a lot of Simon & Garfunkel, so I got a kick out of the various jokes. Parsley and Sage. Hee!

Yes, her way of finally being with Bret. I wonder if this betrays her feelings for which one she likes best???

I think its always been hinted that Mel likes Bret more...I'm struggling to come up with examples now though so maybe that was all in my head....hmm!

In 'Bowie'. Jemaine is trying to get her to compliment Bret, he says something like 'You know how you tend to prefer me,' Mel flat out says 'No' with a confused look and Jemaine keeps going about how Mel prefers him, she just seems to be going along with whatever he says but her face is saying something totally different. I know that face well... Very well... I am a master of it. lol!

Oh yeah....you guys are right. Jemaine, although he isn't attracted to her, sure likes to be #1 in her eyes. Typical man, huh?

Mmmm. yis. Yis. Yis. Yis. Yis. And I definitely think Bret is hottest when he's playing an electric guitar - my 3 fave McKenzie moments are Devil Woman, Business Time and Boom.
