 That's a terrific thing to do....Go Jemaine! (I'm sure Bret had a hand in it as well!)

I wish more artists would do things like this. It's not as if they'll go broke in trying to help everyday folks in getting to see them perform. When I hear about tickets costing upwards of hundreds of dollars to see a band or performer, it makes me sick. (Not the Conchords...other high-falutin' bands.)

Jay Leno recently has donated 2 free shows in our area- free of charge, as there are so many people out of work and/or losing their jobs not only here in the Metro Detroit area of MI but all over the state. You only have to show up and collect up to 4 tix. Unfortunately, some have already shown up on eBay for ridiculous money. :hrmpf: Then we have members of the Detroit city council complaining that he should play his shows in Detroit itself, not a suburb.
Sheesh people- it's 2 free shows! Talk about being ungrateful...it's embarrassing.

Anyway....I think it was a great thing for the Conchords to do, and I hope all the tickets go to peeps right in the area! :)

I seriously hope we see some camera phone footage on youtube of the private show.

Can someone explain this Makura College situation to me? Why is the enrollment so low? Why do people want to save it? What is a "prefect system"?

"Prefect" makes me think of Harry Potter...I'm no help, sorry. I'm sure someone will know, I'm curious as well.

We have prefects at my school in Australia, i'm guessing there the same as in NZ.

I'm not really sure who they are or what they do, but they're Year 12 students. They're supposed to, ya know have school spirit, be supportive figures etc etc. I think theres a group of them. They're kind of like, one step lower than school captains.

Probably not a good explanation, but like I said, i've never seen them do anything.

I found this, about prefects:

http://www.corpun.com/zasc9911.htm

I have no idea how accurate a picture this is, because until now I'd never really heard of one - I mean, I'd heard the word, in books, but I had no experience of it. I vaguely thought it had something to do with British government.

However, if this is the norm in some educational systems, I can certainly see why Makura would be important.

Way to go :supz:

Can really relate to this, because I work in a primary school which periodically gets threatened with closure (in our case it's a small, rural one) and it really would leave such a massive hole in our community.

(At our high school, prefects were older pupils who were given various responsibilities. Can't remember what they were, except that if one caught you mucking about in the corridor they could give you a "Prefect Mark". )

Here's another blurb on it, (on the event, not the prefects) - as you read, you can only guess who gave the journalist the info, (of which I entirely agree)... :rolls:

Well, it's nice that good-looking, generous Jemaine could convince Bret to show up too.

Yis, Bret can be classified as a noncompliant.
